Spherical Contact Lenses

Spherical contact lenses are shaped like part of a sphere, resembling the surface of a baseball or a beach ball1. These lenses have the same curvature throughout the refracting portion of the lens1. They are designed to correct refractive errors such as myopia (nearsightedness) or hyperopia (farsightedness) for patients with little to no astigmatism power21. Typically, these include patients with less than -0.75 D of astigmatism2. Spherical lenses are available in daily, 2-week, and monthly replacement schedules2. Note that spherical powers are available in 0.25 D steps2.
